As Singapore’s Health Promotion Board actively promotes a healthy balanced diet, many Singaporeans are starting to evaluate their meal choices. Hence, we went hunting for affordable premium healthy eats in Singapore.
The aptly named What The Fish! specialises in preparing fish dishes. It aims to bring excitement and variety to what is commonly found in our local hawker centres. If you do not want to fork out more money just for seafood, this is the place to visit.
Fish is well known to be high in omega-3 which does all sorts of wonderful things for your overall health. Coupled with cooking methods that won’t cause you to betray your diet (think not fried, less oil etc.) These are what we’ve eaten to keep our belly in check.
Mentaiko salmon with spaghetti ($9.50)
Mentaiko has been the in-thing for some time now, but we all know how expensive these dishes can cost. You can often find aburi-style cooking only at high-end restaurants, where fire (directly from a blowtorch) is used to sear the fish to bring out its natural flavour.
However, at What The Fish! you can get delicious smokey and creamy Aburi Mentaiko Salmon at an affordable price. We got our salmon with the aglio oglio pasta, and it was the best decision made. Fresh, generous, and prepared to perfection.
Poached Cod with White Wine Broth and Truffle Oil ($8.50)
juices. Perfect for those who want a healthier option meal. The cod is cooked in the French en papillote style, where the fish is cooked in a tightly sealed aluminium pouch filled with white wine broth, allowing the very essence of the flavours inside to mingle and intensify. Once cooked, the bag is cut open and truffle oil is added to reveal a delicious aroma, tantalising your taste buds.
We were initially afraid that the fish would smell fishy with the way it’s being prepared, but thank god it wasn’t. The sweetness from the fish could be tasted. A true taste of seafood at its finest, definitely not something you find in your everyday coffeeshop!
What The Fish! is something you should add to your roster of must-eat places! It brings one-of-a-kind fish dishes that will make you go “What The Fish gimme more!”
